Gambia

Early postal history relates to the area around the mouth of the River Gambia and the development of Bathurst. Stamps were issued from 1869 starting with the Cameo issues of Queen Victoria from which the Circle's journal takes its name. Independence was gained in 1965.

More detailed history of the philatelic output of the Gambia, prepared by WASC member Oliver Andrew, can be followed from this link.
