West Africa Study Circle

Data privacy statement

Legal basis and purpose for processing personal data

Personal data are held by the Study Circle only of members, who have provided their details for the purposes of membership and maintain their membership by annual subscription.
The data held are members’ names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses.
The collecting interests of members, in terms of particular fields of specialisation, are also collected in the membership application form.

Data processing

A member’s details are used to provide to that member our journal Cameo, newsletters and auction lists.
The data are also used to remind members when their subscriptions are due.
On occasions the details may be used to notify members of philatelic events, such as commercial auctions which the committee consider are particularly relevant to the collecting interests of WASC.
An annual membership list is circulated to all members.
No data will be supplied to persons or organisations outside WASC without the explicit permission of a member for a single specific event.

Data control

Members’ details are held on computer by the Membership Secretary, by the Treasurer and the Webmanager. (Currently, May 2018, the Treasurer and the Webmanager are the same person.)
The details of members who leave the Study Circle, or who are considered to have left by non-payment of their subscription, are deleted permanently from both computer systems referred to in this section.
A member may request that an item of data currently held be changed, deleted or not published in the membership list.
